Last year my family was searching schools for my cousin. He recently passed out from a primary school in Delhi and we had to search schools for the next level. I too got involved with the school hunt. Slowly I realized that there is a dearth of school information.
There was no structured website where schools could be filtered or searched. Moreover the reviews still followed a word of mouth approach. It was impossible to find ratings objectively. It was surprising that in today’s world you could find rating for your movies, food, cars, houses, clothing, but not your education. The idea puzzled me.
After digging, I found a few platforms but that didn’t serve the purpose. We started to look for another solution and at last thought of designing one. The concept was simple, design the one platform which could help parents make an informed choice.
We then designed and conceptualized ‘instichoose’. Instichoose aims to enable parents ease their school discovery. Parents could search schools close to their locality. You could rate and review your schools helping other parents looking to search schools.
We are currently available in 2 cities Delhi and Kanpur. We have listed more than 500+ CBSE schools. Our reviews count has already crossed 100 and we are looking forward to achieve the next milestone.

Our School Page gives you an idea of how well the school retains students, the teacher’s distribution, a look at infrastructure facilities, public ratings and feedbacks (for some) . A typical school page looks like this.

A lot of data is available with DISE (a govt agency) schools. You can use the data to scale and contact institutes across other cities. They also have a policy for their data use.

I looked up “Mumbai Schools” on Google and found ALL THE SCHOOLS I know with the PERFECT scores.

The question is – why do you need to exist?
The challenge is that people ALWAYS START at Google for search (irrespective of them getting the right results or not).
This is exactly why LISTING SERVICES (yelp etc) are failing…They can’t get Google out of their hair…
How do you become #1 in the minds of the people BEFORE they go to Google?

Sir when you’re on Google, you generally know what you’re looking for. It may be hard, but you know what you’re looking for. In education search you don’t know what you are looking for. So today once you get a listing how should one decide which school is better! Google really can’t help in that! It has to be more. That’s where we come in our helping people make an informed choice. This is just a start. Features like comparison will be included. Education search needs to be catered in a more focused manner. It is after all about the child’s future.
How we will be on top of people’s head? We let people apply to school through our portal. Today if someone wants an admission he has to take a leave from office, visit schools, buy the form, come again to submit the form and then wait for an interview. And its not just confined to one school you have do it multiple times because you don’t know whether the school will select you for an interview. The ‘For Institute’ on the landing page is where institute can board with us to avail the service.
