IDEA – Jee-lo Dobara
I have a passion to serve senior citizens, should I cultivate my passion of caring people into a business/social venture to start an elder care & home care company? The ultimate aim is to create a social platform for senior citizens of the country, where people share happiness, earn, learn and live a peaceful life in sunset years.
PROBLEM
50% retired couples live alone in metros as well as in tier II & tier III cities.
Jee-lo Dobara
The main objective of starting the mobile application based platform & online portal of Jee-lo Dobara as follows……
1) Help in day- today chores, like bill payment, ticket booking, investment services, will drafting, real estate investment & planning, event management services, medical furniture renting, etc.
2) A platform to offer them job opportunities after retirement (people in healthy condition with skills)
3) A platform for like minded people to arrange for spiritual trips, Local sight seeing, Domestics journeys, Overseas trips.
4) A platform for professional senior citizens to share job / business experience with other people. Like a retired doctor from services can offer medical services via Mobile applications or through online consultation. A Music teacher can help other citizens via helping them to learn musical instruments or classical music or dance. A retired Chartered Accountant can help others by filling IT returns, tax matters.
5) Retired mother can teach culinary skills to younger generation like pickle making, old traditional recipes, traditional wedding songs, maternity care for young mothers, etc.
6) Matrimonial services for widows.
7) A healthy senior person can be a care taker for couples with disabilities & earn.
Income Model for Jee-lo Dobara
Fees based revenue model from well settled senior citizens and affordable model for Middle Income Group, those dependent on earning children. Part time Work & Care Model for senior citizens living in poor conditions.
COMPETITION – various start ups in Elder care space
Funding Requirements – XXX
Application & web development, office infrastructure, marketing & promotion, salaries for founding team.
I am open to your suggestions and guidance.

vishal i really like this idea and the name is awesome!
it’s very relevant since a lot of retired professionals (from every vertical) – suddenly don’t know what to do with their time!
i think you should also create a full on community (like trh) for senior citizens – that would really help them connect with each other!
one small suggestion – start with one city as a pilot, then take it further!
all the best!

“should I…”
I realized when most people ask something like above, they already know the answer. You know better than anyone 🙂 You said “I have a passion to serve senior citizens” — if that’s the case, nothing else should matter (right?). No ones opinion/inputs. Worst case, you’ll realize in few months it’s not something you wanted to do longterm and find something better to do.
P.S. Conceptually it sounds good, but then I’m not your audience.

Thanks Asha for your observation,
I want to scale it after initial success in Mumbai.

Vishal, I feel that your idea is timely.
There have been attempts in the past, mostly at a city level, I think.
All the best to make your idea into a national level sustainable model.
