Hi All,
I have this problem from quite some time, and now I seek all of your expert advise on this.
Being a member of various online groups(FB, quora, linkedin, etc) is great thing – we get to know lot of happenings, each platform offering a different flavour. But, sometimes it just gets burdensome for me to go check every single group for activity. A lot of times, what happens is, I just forget checking in a lot of groups as my energy keeps getting focused on few of them.
Would like to know how you manage time between various online groups?
Is there a digital tool, whereby I could put in all my online groups at one place and glance them?

Most still do offer rss feeds, except quora (im not sure, i generally visit that more often to even think of finding out other ways to get that feed)
You can use either hootsuit to combine the feeds or a simple rss reader like feedly. You can even setup Rss feeds for google alerts again.
Hope could add some value

This is the classic Productivity management Question raising its Ugly head once again 😛
You can use the Recipes from IFTTT.com to assimilate majority of them all, in your email as a Separately named Folder for each as required too to collect and sort as per your liking or requirement. (Gmail has started grouping the mails in a similar fashion already by default) You can make filters to sort them into Folders (Labels) in any of the email services you use accordingly too.
Let me try to provide a Self Controlled and Individualistic tool which can be used for achieving this and it can also train you to do the same as per your own choice too and achieve FOCUS!!
Hope this helps in the LONG Run!!

Hi Saraswathi
Totally agree with you and me too face the same problem. May be not only for startup but related to our field as well. Lot of interesting articles are posting now a days to read-out but to visit all of them and tracking is a big headache. If someone can solve this problem, will be helpful to us.

Hey Saraswathi,
While a lot of the answers below point you to social media management tools, it is important to understand the requirement from a user perspective.
There are people who I know have a voracious appetite for reading and responding at lightening speed across several mediums. However, everyone is not made the same and each of us have different appetites for reading and may need more time to respond.
The simple answer to your question is shut out what is not pertinent to your area of knowledge or interest. For instance, I stopped reading daily newspapers that had only glamour and crime and a real digging was necessary to read real #news. I have not read a daily in over 3 years now and absolutely do not miss it! but I do get all the important info through online news portals which provide only factual information rather than speculative talk.
I would like to know what is your interest in posting into various forums and groups? Can you do away with ones that don’t add direct value to your area of work? The ones that do, how often do you find something interesting? You can then fix a set interval to visit those particular forums or groups. For instance I have a friend who visits his facebook page every 3 hours in a day and his linkedin page once in 3 days. His twitter page gets his attention when he is travelling which means about 3 to 5 hours a day. I have one of my colleagues who is expected to make 26 posts in a day on facebook for various client pages and respond to double that many posts.
We use a method at Digicat where we calculate the priority of a response for various channels, for example: Quora can wait for a response for even 2 to 3 days before a conversation has lost you. On facebook it might be a day and so on. the next step would be to respond immediately and buy time. Hence if we cannot answer a question with satisfaction, a simple line addressing the response having been received may suffice. This gives us ample time to respond at our time and yet not lose the conversation.
Social Media Management tools can provide the info but update followup email on gmail should take care of letting you know what is happening. If you have responded to a forum, you anyway get a notification on email from that forum. So all you need to do is set a priority at which to scout random forums for relevance. However online information stays there and you can keep visiting it. You should just pick two mediums on which you wish to remain most active and do complete justice to the posts there.
Hope I did not sound too philosophical. 🙂

Hi Darshan, partly true – must agree on the public forum 😛 My problem is definitely a case of overwhelming information and mis management of time!
Sure, I’ve heard about IFTTT but haven’t tried them out yet. Remember a post on TRHS on IFTTT recipes too, will get this done. I have Rescuetime installed on my pc from quite few months already..

True Manish, sometimes I feel I suffer from “FOMO” – Fear of missing out. But, as with other resources – we only have only 24 hours and we can only do so many things. I think the key is to prioritize well. Good luck. If I happen to automate any of my tasks, will definitely share it with you 🙂

Hi Pawan,
Firstly, thank you for taking time to write such a deep and insightful reply to me, cannot thank enough :)) Your reply contains answers to my questions, which I would definitely look at implementing. I would need to take some time off to relook at my time spent across various social media platforms and groups and prioritize according to my interests..

6 ifttt recipes that can make you a better entrepreneur
Tweak your Mail Filters so you can Have the Mails from a particular forum or Group to get filtered and collect in a Individually named folder (You can use Numbers in sequence to assign the folders a priority sequence visually) for the purpose and that ways you can manage almost all your Various Subscription and check as per Priority and sort them as well too. (Also works in Outlook, Thunderbird or other Mail clients too)
Using a mix and match combination of all the above mentioned, it should sort your major Issues for a start, then it’s just Tweaking it more to suit your purpose and make it work for you with updations as and when required.
Cheers!!!
