KMPH Trips was conceptualized as the well travelled founders and people known to them always felt dismal about the unprofessional approach of travel agencies and the absence of an online platform where one can explore destinations, read about those places and complete online booking.
The challenge with existing travel portals was that none of them allowed booking hotels/cars/buses at multiple places in a single cart and one had to login/logout numerous times to complete the transaction. Many of them didn’t provide any information either.
The execution started when Amit (founder) came with big flipcharts describing flows and wireframes of KMPH Trips. It was astonishing that someone who has spent 20 years in banking could create such detailed workflow which needs to be actualized. His sheer passion for travel and starting-up made me take notice and thereafter we spent nights together coding for KMPH Trips in between shots of coffee.
Our purpose was simple – Why can’t we leverage technology to solve the problem associated with trip creation.
The research threw clear insights –
Most of respondents had tried planning a trip and then surrendered against the enormity of the task.
Right from choosing destinations (exploring places) to obtaining information about weather, routes, sightseeing, activities and then looking out for hotels matching your style and budget can be an overwhelming assignment, even for seasoned travellers. However, if one plans to visit more than one destination, then this not-so-simple task can become quite overbearing.
How one wished that there was a seamless & fun way of creating a trip. Why does one need to navigate through the maze of information scattered across the world-wide-web?
How It Works
1. Discover Destinations (Explore Places)
Use a map based destination locator to explore and discover destination in a variety of ways, i.e. you can filter destinations basis distance, weekend from, geography (state, region, country), type (beach, wildlife, hills etc.), category (popular, offbeat etc.) and the map will accordingly throw up relevant options for you to choose from. You can add as many destinations as you want to in your trip plan.
2. Collect Travel Intelligence
Read as much as you need about the selected destinations from a neatly organised destination guide, which tells you about the climate, best time to go, nearby places, how to reach (air, rail), attractions to see, activities to do;
3. Create Trips from Scratch
Select from the our widest set of options when it comes to Hotels, Buses, Cars, Activities for each of the destinations and create a day-wise commuting, boarding, sightseeing and activities plan, which become the single-most-important document you will carry during your trip (passport can be a worthy competitor for this title).
4. Instant payment and Confirmation
Keep adding your picks to the cart as you build your itinerary. Single checkout and payment. Instant confirmations. Print, Pack and Proceed.

hey vikram,
was awesome meeting you at the rodinhooders of delhi meetup on sunday.
quick reaction to the post (i haven’t checked out your site yet!) – is YOUR NAME.
i think you both should put some thought into your branding as there is no brand recall with such a name.
an abbreviation works only if the name is interesting or the short form is. eg HOMP Highway on my plate.
there is a rodinhooder with a travel venture called Find My Carrot – it’s hard to forget!!
