Hello Rodinhoods!
First let me declare that I am not a computer engineer nor a geek. So, I am asking such question.
I want to learn some programming languages to start my own in near future.
I know it is possible to get all technicals done by outsourcing, but even I emphasize on learning.
I am familiar with some language like HTML, SAS, SQL
Please share some resources to learn PHP and JAVA.
Apart from resources please guide me on “How to start?” and “From where to start?”.
Thanks in advanced.

I am on a similar boat too. I am a computer engineer but no geek. I have been learning and programming for 9 yrs now, and the more I learn the more I realize how less I have learnt so far.
My style of learning is not appreciated by most, but nonetheless I will lay it in front. According to me, knowledge gained with no purpose is knowledge wasted. So lets fill up a purpose. For example find something you want to achieve. Ex- A clock for Windows, A ToDO list in windows etc. Then lets break it up to simplest forms. Then starts searching google how to achieve those simplest forms. Implement it in different languages, different IDEs, see, measure, learn. That’s how I learn and works for me. You get code snippets. Its as simple as Copy paste an run to see if it works. If it works then change something, break something, then fix it. Do that is multiple languages. Only when you break it, you learn their internals to fix it.
I recommend give it a try.

Thanks Gourav. I like to go by your method and it was my predetermined plan too. As my main intention is to make an app for android, I want to learn JAVA.

Hello Samal, First of all let me clarify that I want to learn a new language for my future venture. It could be and app and/or a web portal. I still have some confusion regarding your view on PHP, because most of web portals is based on PHP and even WordPress, Drupal is also in the line.

Dear Neel,
I would get straight to the point. You don’t need to be an expert to code. Learn as you require. From what I gather you need to learn stuff to set up and manage your own application or portal.
For Android: There are many simulators and applications that help you create an app with little coding knowledge. As for JAVA you can start with the basics of JAVA like datatypes, syntax, classes also called as CORE JAVA.
For Portals: Use wordpress for static sites and make full of of external plugins and APIs.
Subscribe to newsletters of multiple tech blogs of your interest. My new blog http://www.webdesigndeveloplearn.com is an example of one. This would keep you abreast of new innovations and technologies.
Still if you need to learn the traditional way i.e. books you can look for dummy series which are one of the best I have gathered. I can provide you with some.Drop a mail at contact@webdesigndeveloplearn.com and I’ll surely help you with it. 🙂
