LocateShoppy – locate, explore and buy from shops around the corner

Hello everyone

I am Mayur.

The opportunities and entrants in the Hyperlocal and other just in time services are well known to the startup world.

There is a lot of scope in these sectors. But one thing we all know from bottom of heart – the shops around the corner or the brick and mortar shops we mostly buy from are going nowhere in near future.

In case you have gone through recent news of the offline retailers doing good sales this year, is a proof that the discounted e-commerce is not going to make that big a change in habits of the consumers. So shops are going to stay! Now the scope lies in better way to discover and browse these shops. That’s what we are trying to do at locateshoppy.

One of the triggers for the idea was a post on therodinhoods by a seller unsatisfied with flipkart, snapdeal and some other online marketplaces.

There we thought – one day the online subsidized sell will end and so there will be no more 50% – 90% – offers. Also if this is coming through innovation in sourcing, the same innovation will be adapted by the offline sellers resulting into not much difference in pricing. Then the offline sellers will also be able sell at a competitive price (they don’t need to package the product, instant cash, no delivery charges for buyer, etc). Any ways that’s a big topic. And an experienced expert can comment on it better.

But yes, we will still need access to the offline sellers i.e. shops around the corner – online!

So we started building locateshoppy. Along with that we were exploring the field and competition. We came across a huge number of hyperlocal startups catering to different domains. We thought no issues! Let’s do something like this – just help customers find shops around them and then let them decide what they want to do, visit the shop and buy it or enquire or order (COD as of now). We settled on some features and have completed development of a version. You can have a look at it here. We are operating in Pune and plan to scale everywhere soon.

So our appeal to TRH community:

We are a small team working on a service which helps people search for a local business on map. After locating the nearby shop for particular service, the user can contact the shop for inquiry or place order (Cash on Delivery). We are planning to display the products in the future but as of now plan is to start just with the shop information. Also a user can follow a particular shop for offers in the future.

We place our self into two categories – local search and hyper-local.

We request you to please share your general feedback/criticism on the idea and product.

Please don’t hesitate to tear us apart on this if we are doing anything wrong. We are aware that – we can be classified as a ‘me too startup’ in these categories. But we and I think everybody in the community, believe that -“Shehar me har kone pe ek tapari hoti hai aur chalti bhi hai“. But we also believe in being different and staying a step ahead of the competition!

Have a great day 🙂

  1. hey mayur,

i’m intrigued! and i love the fact that a post on trh actually helped trigger this idea!!

i just went to your website very briefly.

i think you should add the HOW IT WORKS screenshot to your post. it would really give us all a clear pic.

also, where are you operating as of now?

this is such a paradox naa? “But yes, we will still need access to the offline sellers i.e. shops around the corner – online!” :)))

    all the best!

  2. Thank you Asha. We are operating in Pune as of now. And plan to scale to everywhere soon.

🙂 Yes it’s paradox because we want the product almost like ‘now’ and we also don’t want to go to shop! May be because we don’t have time to visit and explore so many shops. When such shops get online we can browse them compare prices across shops and visit the one or order from the one we have discovered. The technology will reduce time and some efforts, that’s it.

Thank you very much for your comment 🙂

  3. Hi Mayur,

I would like to connect with you and know more. I have been in the ‘local’ space for a while. There is a lot of potential in this space and quite a few a startups are active. In fact, we should all meet up and discuss on how we can help each other grow.

My number is 9820839927 and mail id is jitendra@digilocal.in

Thank you and wish you the best..

  4. There is Yoola which is also based out of Pune .. yoola.co

Also, NearFox was recently featured on TRH.. again a similar and interesting concept…

  5. Hey Jitendra,

    Thank you for the comment.

Its true that there is a lot of potential in this area. Most of the new startups are “hyperlocal”.Everyone have something unique in them.

There is a lot more to talk about it. We surely can talk about it.May be I ‘ll give you a call tommo.

    Good Luck 🙂

    Regards,

    Mayur

  6. Interesting.

    You would love to know:

How are people in Asia buying the products they choose?

    • Shoppers in Asia follow two kinds of ROPO paths: research online, purchase offline or research online, purchase online.
    • In India and Indonesia, a high percentage of customers are still heading to brick-and-mortar stores to make their purchases at 82% and 87%, respectively. When it comes to purchasing online however, Japan (44%), South Korea (50%), and Taiwan (41%) are leading the way.
    • How are online purchases being made? In Japan, on computers mostly. A whopping 92% use a computer when checking out their shopping cart (vs. 6% via smartphones).
    • While only 11% of those surveyed in India buy online, many who do are using smartphones—and at a higher percentage (34%) than most other Asian countries. India is surpassed only by Indonesia, where 67% are completing their purchases on smartphones.
    • Most Asian shoppers forego going direct (to manufacturer and retailer sites, for example) and instead opt to purchase from general online retailers and price comparison sites.
