Hello Everyone,
I am currently running an Internet product startup. For past 6 months we have been experimenting and toying with various product ideas.
One of the idea is about creating a Hosted Affiliate Management System. There are a lot of affiliate management systems which show that there could be a viable market for this product.
I am looking to connect with people with experience in the Online Affiliate Marketing Industry.
I would love to hear their opinion on the idea of creating an Hosted Affiliate Management System and whether there could be a viable market for such product.
Thanks and Cheers,
Ankit

Hey Ankit,
Your post hit on a very touchy subject. Have been involved with Aff Marketing (Publisher side) since the early days. Not by choice, by necessity…but that’s a whole different story on its own. That said, I’ve learned to embrace it over the years as it has opened up a world of networking opportunities and have never looked back.
As an Advertiser its one of the best marketing avenues to consider…. Highly measurable and you are able to engage shoppers, especially with all the social tools out there now. I would recommend against an in house platform especially starting up; instead using a global platform like CJ, LS, SAS, GAN, PPJ (those in my mind are the top 5 affiliate networks in the US). I have been actively looking at the Indian Space as well, and find the following to be the top 3 at the moment: DGM, Vcommission, OMG (Shoogloo).
One of the reasons you are getting into affiliate marketing, is to increase exposure to your website and hopefully get buyers to your Product pages. By signing up with one or even a few of the networks, all of a sudden you have opened up your offer to 1000’s of publishers. Not sure what your product or service is as you have not mentioned it in your post; regardless if your offer is compelling, and pays in accordance… or better yet ABOVE your competitors, your program will be successful. You can then offer bonuses and such to high paying affiliates. Word gets around quickly in the industry, and pretty soon you will have other Publishers wanting approval into your program.
By running an in house affiliate program, publishers are still unaware that your product exists, unless you direct them to your site or to your affiliate program. Plus the publisher has to sign up for a completely separate account – WE DON’T LIKE THIS! Sure you get to control the parameters of your affiliate program in a multitude of ways through an in house platform, but with all the host of tools that are available in the Affiliate Networks nowadays… XML and API feeds, it becomes a mute point. The advantage of getting that exposure to the vast # of Publishers in the industry clearly outweighs the option of an in-house platform.
Thats my 2c – hope to get back 4!
Lets connect Ankit!
