Love towards work and following my heart is all that I can understand as an entrepreneur….

Dear All,

I mostly observed that the companies which gets featured on various blogs or start up sections of most of the magazines have usually to do with mobile apps and internet based solutions, but on the other hand my venture belongs to a service industry, and that is why probably I never posted my story here.

I personally feel that you don’t need to be innovative to be an entrepreneur but only hard working and committed to what you do and to make it big. No doubt getting out of your comfort zone is the first and prime thing that one is suppose to do.

I’m a 29 year old doctor, did my MBBS and then “MD in Pharmacology” from Goa Medical College. I passed out in year 2010 and won Gold medalist (Baba Saheb Ambedkar award) for topping in the university exams. Besides that I had around 20 national and international publications, couple of International presentations and 1 national award to my credit.

Passing out at a young age of 27 (yes! In Indian setting 27 is the youngest age of the doctor who passes his MD/ MS;)) and with a very strong CV in hand, I started getting very good job offers from lot of pharmaceutical MNCs from Delhi and Mumbai. My home town is in Delhi but probably “bada banne ke keede ki wajah se” or as they say “Magic happens out of your comfort zone”, I left Delhi and jobs that I was getting there and came down to Mumbai around 2 years back. Why Mumbai? Since majority of the pharmaceutical companies are in Mumbai and this is the actual place where my dreams can come true.

I started the company named “Pharmakeez: Solutions Unlocked” (Proprietorship firm) while I was doing my MD (https://www.pharmakeez.com/), sole reason being my low stipend in the college (6,000/- INR per month). The company used to provide medico-marketing business solutions to Pharmaceutical industry. Since I was busy studying for exams as well, me with my friend managed to pull a decent turn over for us to have a good living and saving money for a bigger task to be done in future.

Thereafter in July 2010, I came down to Mumbai to venture out into it full time and building my own dedicated team. In the mean time, we enrolled a new company (Private Limited one this time), Geronimo Healthcare Solutions Pvt. Ltd. (https://geronimohealthcare.com/). The company caters again the medico-marketing needs of pharma industry, but besides that we put up couple of more verticals including pharma IT and core scientific writing domain to our credit. In the mean while, our company got featured in magazines like “Express Pharma” and “Pharma Bio-world”. We were also nominated at “Manthan Awards 2011” for best e-content and practices in India. (https://geronimohealthcare.com/milestones.html)

As of now, we have put up a turn over of 1,00,000 USD last year and looking forward to improvise for good in the ongoing year now.

Being a doctor, it has always been difficult for me to convince my parents or let know my parents as what exactly I do for living, but probably after sustaining myself and my team for 2 years now, they got the confidence finally.

They always say that you need to be there for atleast 5 years to make your venture big, so I guess 3 more years of sustainability and my dreams will too come true. After all following my heart and love for work are the only two things that I have understood in my entire life so far.

Please note: I use to be the lead singer of our college rock band and have given many performances in Goa. We have been featured in ToI and had put up a show in FM. Even in Mumbai, I have done 2 shows in FM, performed live at many places and things like that. Recently, I was also the part of India’s first social media road trip “Drive with MTV” and came out to be a part of winning team. Why i’m mentioning all this because that’s the beauty of being an entrepreneur. You are your own boss, you can manage things the way you want and you have ample time to follow your passion which keeps you going.

Proud to be one!

Cheers

Dr. Dang (yeah! my surname is “Dang”, so mostly my friends call me “Dr. Dang”;))
