This post talks about how to help the sleep deprived IT industry get some much needed sleep.
Straight from the horse’s (engineer’s) mouth…
I am an Engineer (bachelor) in an IT solutions company. This company is not a big IT giant, but a decade old startup, still trying hard to make its mark. So working hours are long, projects are challenging and among all this is pressure & competition at its peak.
Often I do experience long hours at work; minimum 12 hours and sometimes end up sleeping at office. Since I live 2.5 hours away from office & commute on bike, I prefer to give those 5 hours to sleep, than commuting, because after reaching home, I might get just 3 hours of sleep. I know next morning 9:00 AM again I need to be at the same place. So why not save time and sleep here itself.
Necessity is the mother of all invention, as they rightly say. Here comes an idea following the same thought…
The idea
I see a lot of sheesha lounges, bowling lounges, ice cream parlours around my office. But, I wish there was a sleeping lounge or a sleeping parlour too, where I could go and ask for a single bed in a sound proof room.
In the middle of a hectic day at work (where I know there are another 12 hours to go), if I wanted to get an hour of power nap, I am sure my boss would pen that down in my performance appraisal. I better excuse myself from office for a couple of hours, get my power nap in a sound-proof room with scented dried flowers, and come back refreshed… Viola!
My eyes go half closed while I pen down this idea. But what do you think with your eyes open? Tell me sooner…
