Hello all,
I am doing a story for www.prmoment.in, a weekly PR magazine, on what the start-up sector wants from public relations. Is it media coverage? Do you see PR as a legitimate business partner? What percentage of the budget do you see going to PR vs advertising?
Here is a list of questions:
Questions
1) What kind of PR services are start-ups interested in at various stages of their story, given the different resource challenges for each of these stages? For example, early stage as compared to a well established e-comm company like Flipkart.
2) Is PR seen as a legitimate business partner in their growth story or mostly though of as a media coverage function?
3) In your opinion what percentage of the marketing budget would go to PR as compared to say advertising.
4) Name and Designation for the story
Please mail me at paarul@prmoment.in with your responses or post here.

Hi Paarul,
I run a startup called FINQA and we had recently hired a startup PR firm (more of 2 PR employees part timing on the side).
1.) We are at a very early stage and the kind of services we needed was primarily to get exposure about our company and the concept we are trying to grow.
2.) Yep, we feel PR is very important for a business, intact way more important than direct advertising but our experience wasn’t very great. PR firms who act as a virtual partner of the business and put themselves in their client’s shoes will probably do better instead of just chasing stories based on a brief.
3.) Again we are very small and for us, it was more of an investment for 3 months. However, I think it should be a decent part of a company’s marketing budget and the first line item.
4.) Abhik Prasad, Director , FINQA.in
Let me know if you need any additional information.
