The Wait
I arrived early to meet Alok at his office. As most of us do, I too had my mind racing and wondering many things about the person I was about to meet.
– What should I talk to him about? Would he be welcoming of my ideas?
– Was he really as spiritually grounded as he appeared online?
– How is he as a businessman? Astute? People friendly? etc.
While I was waiting he happened to pass by and gave me a light relaxed smiling acknowledgement. Somehow that put my mind at ease and I decided to not think or plan too much about our meeting or even have a set agenda or preparation. I became open to letting things flow.
My wait was prolonged as he had another meeting before me for which the participants came late and extended their time too. During this Alok apologized and checked that I was ok waiting.
The Flowing Meeting
As soon as we started, Alok put me in a comfort zone that is tough to explain. After the conversation just flowed naturally and effortlessly as Alok took genuine interest in me as a person and in my ideas.
He is one of the best listeners I have met. He understood the essence and spirit of what I liked doing and the ideas. He did not hesitate to encourage and support me right away. My favorite moment was when he so easily said – “so let’s get started and do something”.
Another powerful aspect I noticed about him is – how well he combines listening with authentic compliments. All of it makes him a powerful catalyst for an entrepreneur who is brimming with ideas!
