My domain name is searched 101 Million times on Google every month.

There is a new tale in the twist today.

While doing SEO for my site – Mingle Trips (where you can find travel partners for yourself), I was looking for words like travel partners, people to travel with, etc on Google Adwords.

Adwords recommends related words with Global Monthly Searches.

And it said the phrase “An An Travel” is searched whooping 101 million searches every month!

That’s 101 Fu@king MILLON searches a month!

I looked up on GoDaddy and found that the domain name AnAnTravel.com was available.

By now I was salivating like Pavlov’s dog. I rechecked on Google Adwords and got my developer check again to make sure I was not reading the number incorrectly.

Yep, 101 Million it was.

Quick search on Google revealed that there is An-Antravel.com which is  a Thai/Singapore travel site.

Without losing any time, I went  back to GoDaddy.com and bought AnAnTravel.com, AnAnTravel.net, AnAnTravel.org, AnAnTravel.co and An-An-Travel.com.

With some smart optimized content, I can easily be rank #1 or #2 on Google for the phrase An An Travel with these domain names.

Here is the quick calculation

• 101 million hits per month
• At 20% click through rate, AnAnTravel.com will get 20 million visitors
• Convert 10% of them (Our current click to register rate is about 14%) to use MingleTrips – and you get 200k new Users/Month :-)))))
• 20 million users will also generate some revenues – so at $5 per thousand page views (multiple ads on every page), I will end up making a hundred thousand on ad sales alone 

Sounds too good to be true?

My Dad always says, “If it is sounds too good to be true, it is too good to be true”.

So, Once the euphoria died, and I got back to my senses, I did some analysis.

• An-Antravel.com is ranked 3,279,583 on Alexa.
• The email address on An-AnTravel.com is an-antravel@hotmail.com
• The site is slow, and crappy, only in Thai, with no other language options

There are more Travel related keywords that get the same exact 101 million searches/month including, you guessed it right, TRAVEL.

Aah, so here is the real twist in my tale.

“a travel”, “of travel” “i travel” “to travel” – all get 101 million searches per month.

It seems Google Adwords ignores words like “a”, “i” “an” and treats them the same as the principal search word – Travel, in this case.

So, the word Travel gets searched 101 million times – not the phrase “An an travel”

I guess my domain name AnAnTravel.com may really not get 101 million searches a month on google after all. 🙁
