Hello,
This is Yash from Mumbai. I’ve Completed my Bachelor in Management Studies and want to start my own business in Mumbai itself.
It would be mostly in “E-waste recycling” as this is a major problem in today’s world and I would like to do something good for planet earth because people in today’s world have forgotten the concept of sustainable development.
I’m looking out to purchase my own plant and extract metals out of e-waste. Plant would be mostly outside Mumbai. (Cost is not a problem because I have an investor who is ready to give me initial amount to purchase a plant) I also have a co-founder with me.
In the future I plan to raise money in the form of equity.
Questions:
1) Is there someone you know who can help me and guide me in this on how to go ahead with it?
2) From where can I get the best plant which could extract maximum metals?
3) A suitable logistic and supply chain?
4) Do you have a contact at the Maharashtra pollution control board?
Thanking you.
Regards,
Yash Solanki.

Hi Yash,
Under my company i-dream Education, we have extensively worked on e-waste collection setting up collection hubs in schools, creating the right form of awareness, collecting e-waste and then transporting the same to an authorised recyclers.
While it is definitely a good business to get into from environment point of view, the economics of it needs to be seriously considered before getting into it especially since you are considering setting up your own plant. The amount of capital required will be huge and you will also have to apply for all the licenses. Connecting with MPCB will indeed be the first step.
Another big challenge which an e-waste recycling companies face is to get sufficient amount of e-waste through formal channels. As a result, most of the companies end up buying e-waste from the informal channels which accounts for more than 95% of e-waste. So, while you are setting up the plant, you will also have to start thinking very aggressively from where will the e-waste come.
Pl do let me know if you would to know any more insights.
All the best.
Yash Solanki
Yes.. setting up a plant is too costly.. specially in Mumbai.
For now I’m thinking to set up a agency which will collect ewaste and sell it to recyclers.
I also had a word with few other companies for their franchisee.
Also It would be good if you can share your experience with me
