  1. Hey Kapil,

It depends upon your needs. How many users are visiting your site on the daily basis. And does your sites would be serving cross platforms like desktops along with tablets and mobile phones ?

If you are in hurry to make your site live. You can use WordPress. There are many themes as well as plugins which are focussed on the E-Commerce. Such as WooCommerce. Also if you are inclined towards WordPress then do check the following links

    1) https://themeforest.net/category/wordpress/ecommerce/wp-e-commerce

    2) https://themeforest.net/item/sell-responsive-ecommerce-wordpress-theme/5264066

Also, There are tons of the plugins which can integrate into your existing WordPress themes.

If you need more help regarding this matter. Let me know. I will help you out. Have quite good experience working with the WP E-Commerce platform. 🙂

Will be more than happy to help you 🙂

    Thanks!

  2. No wordpress. Go for ecom platforms like opencart, magneto or hard code. It is very flexible.

Though you can do it on WP or .net but the problem you will face is expanding and modifying it or adding external plugins. And ecommerce need some good features, for example a simple thing like courier charge calculation for each country or location!! and it should add it automatically to users order price. Woo themes is ok, but see this https://www.woothemes.com/product-category/woocommerce-extensions/ (eventually it will cost same 🙂

WP platform is for one set of users (content driven)…for eCom it can never be, though people do any juggad, but quick fix is bad.

Also remember and accept that you will never stick to one vendor or vice versa, so if you decide to change your vendor you may not find more people who can take WP ecom project….so get it done on platform which is running in market and accepeted by most of the developers/vendors. This will reduce risk of gayab hogaya developer.

However, if you are just looking to test your idea or in hurry you may try WP.

    God knows about .net 🙂

  3. Hi Kapil,

Welcome to the word of E-Com ! Recently same question has been discussed in a group on FB.. As per experts WP is not a good platform when it come to volume. Still there are people who are managing e-comm site with huge number of products on WP. It need very much customization when it comes to volume on a WP based website…

We are also having our own website on WP (Cakehunt) as the number of products are very less, we don’t have any problem as of now. Also it is recommended to have inhouse developer for such sites.

    All the best !

  4. Hey kapil.

I am into same business. Developed site on WordPress and it SUCKS. We are shifting it to Magento after facing many issues over WordPress.

I would suggest you to NOT go for WordPress and think about Magento.

  5. Hey Tanutejas, can you share ur co-ordinates on kapil6@gmail.com

  6. Never use wp , use magento , open cart its better

  7. Forget .net, forget opencart..

WordPress if u are low on budget..keep in mind take a simple theme and a good VPS eg. Digital Ocean

Magento if you are real serious on this business and are ok with investment.

An optimised wordpress would be better if u are starting up and need to keep costs low. Magento is resource intensive.

Can contact me if u need any help regarding that..m a developer too.. 🙂

  8. Hi Ishan,

What would be the additional cost, if a website is in WP and want to migrate to Magneto ? Ours is a small site, as of now we are having 135 products, maximum will be 300.

    Thanks, Ashish

  9. Hi Ashish,

The costs is a very subjective term. Alright lets work it out:

Costs: Hosting + Development + Migration

Hosting: You need a Vps. Starts $5 a month. Or you can also go for Amazon EC2 free for one year for small site. Other totally free options are also available.

Migration: Free if done manually or with some limited free service. Also some paid tools do those tasks for you.

Contact me at 9136156879 if you require further help. Also meanwhile you can optimise your present wp install.
