ONLINE MAGAZINE…YOUR HELP NEEDED.

Dear Rodinhooders

I’m Saravana Kumar from Coimbatore, Tamilnadu. I was editing and publishing a local news magazine a couple of years back (links to pages here: https://issuu.com/mycitystar/docs/city_star_-_feb). Due to some financial constraints, I had to stop the publication. Now, I’m planning to reactivate it in an online version.

This will be a portal that carries stories about people in/belong to Coimbatore (since it is a city based neighbourhood magazine). Now, my question is…is there any licensing procedure to start such a portal? I had earlier registered my news magazine with the Registrar of Newspapers in India (RNI), passing through all the formalities. Will this online version need any such registration? If yes, which is the body that does it?

Kindly throw some light on this, dear friends.

Thanks a lot, in advance.

  1. You dont need any formalities to publish an online magazine – its the equivalent of a website or a blog.

  2. Thanks for the info Shitij…I’ll start working on it.

  3. Hi Saravana,

I looked at your publication, which is quite interesting, informative though it is an older version. I think the idea of reviving is a good step in the right direction.

There will be some changes in the format, working style, etc. but its reach is going to be tremendous. You will not only reach people in Coimbatore (locally) but a much wider audience of Coimbatorians across different cities in India (Chennai, Bangalore, Delhi, etc) and also people living or working abroad.

There are some websites like GoDaddy, Bigrock.in, etc. where you can get your web site, hosting, etc. Im not technically well-versed but if you contact any website designing firm or professional they can easily guide you and help you set it up. Im sure there will be some people in Rodingoods from Coimbatore with web-development/design who might reach out to you.

If you need any Content-related help I can contribute in this area and we can discuss how to go about it. I’ve written on personal finance, investing, self-improvement and other generic topics. I’m a native of Chennai (now living in Bangalore), but I hope these generic topics will be of use to people from Coimbatore too. You can reach me at sridharcw@gmail.com

  4. Hi Sridhar

Thanks a lot for these great comments. I’m definitely confident about the value this product is going to create in the future. Right now, I’m working on site development with my programmer friend here in Coimbatore. The portal should be up and running from May (hoping so).

I will need contributors for articles and will definitely seek your help shortly.

Thanks again. Will keep in touch.

    Regards

    Saravana Kumar

  5. Wish you all the best for the website project. Looking forward to hear from you once again when your website is launched. Thanks.

    Sridhar
