People Power !!

A very funny incident took place yesterday but it forced me think about people’s power. 

I was standing at my terrace in the night when I heard some noise coming from the street behind. I went towards the back side of the terrace and saw a group of people. 

There was a hefty man beating a rickshaw puller. He was drunk and a group of people were standing their and watching the rickshaw puller getting beaten badly. 

I couldn’t see it like that, I shouted from the terrace itself. “Oye, Kyun maar rahe ho isse” and the guy shouted on top of his voice “Tu kaun hota hai?”. And I shouted back ” you better stop or else I will call the police” He replied “By the time you will call the police, I will beat him to death.”. 

But in the meantime, there were other people who were by now standing also started murmuring something. I shouted again that “we all will also beat you if you don’t stop”. It all happened within a minute. A guy who was also passing by, just entered the crowd and tried to stop the man. But before he could have done that, the man pulled his hand to beat that guy as well. 

That’s it, this was the final blow for the crowd. Everybody just started holding the big guy and there came a blow on his face. Before he could have reacted, the crowd was now beating the hell out of him. Within 5 minutes the crowed disbursed, the rickshaw puller who was getting beaten up in the first place had a little bruises and also left the place. Only big guy was down the street, bruised badly, left for the police to come and pick him up. 

This small incident forced me to think about the power of people. To think about the way world is operating now. Sometime back it was important to be a big company before you get any big client. There was monopoly in the system. But today, you got to know what you are doing and how well you are doing it. People will come to you with business. 

I read it somewhere, that today is not the time to wait to become a brand before you get aggressive for your work. Today is the time to get aggressive about your work first and then people will make you a brand. But you got to have some credits under your belt. You got to have a product / service which is seriously better than the competition or at least at par then only you can fight that battle. 

Else, every company big or small, new or old will have to face the dearth of time if not living with it’s customers and not innovating the ways to serve its customers. People are the power of today. No matter how much money you have, no matter how much power you hold, if people want they can pull you down. On the contrary, no matter how small you may be, but if people like your work they will appreciate it and shout out loud about it.
