With the rise of ECommerce and Internet penetration going deeper in the rural scape, shoppers have been buying stuff out of there home, visits to shopping malls have been declining for shopping purposes and alternate source of family entertainment in our country is only limited to Watching a movie over the weekend, visiting the amusement parks(costly) or other casual entertainment media outside the home. Also, Indians have been crazy for movies forever, be it the bollywood masala, bollywood melodrama or the Hollywood sci-fi, Indians have an appetite for everything.
I have been thinking about the concept of starting a monthly subscription App for movies in Cinema Halls, I am still in the initial stages and have not done any market study, cost benefit analysis and feasibility studies yet. Also, looking for co-founders and people with tech background to help develop the idea.
The concept:-
The App will work like a movie pass where-in a fixed monthly fee shall be paid by the user and he/she shall be allowed to watch unlimited movies in any cinema halls he desires, the choice of booking through the App shall also be provided and the choice to go directly at the cinema hall shall also be there. Alternatively, am also thinking about working on the concept through a Plastic Card, where-in the card shall be prepaid and recharged in the start of the month to be used by the user to either book through the website/App or use it to scan at the booking office of the theater.
Revenue:-
- Subscription fee from the users
- Commission from Cinema owners for tickets booked in non-peak, non-seasonal hours
- Ad’s on the Card?
- Data analytics & customer behaviour analytics
Other T&C that I’ve thought of:-
- No user shall be allowed to watch a movie twice
- Minimum subscription period shall be 3 months for a user
- Cinema Halls like the PVR Director’s cut shall be excluded
- Free Pop Corns may be provided if the cost permits
Fellow Rodinhooders, need suggestions/ideas/feedback on how can i progress with the idea further. A few questions:-
- Is the idea feasible Pan-India?
- How to convince Theatre owners
- Legal issues involved in a subscription based model

A similar service operating in the US by the name of MoviePass!

Hey Prateek,
As a fellow entrepreneur, I would say Go for it. No idea is bad idea and no idea is good idea until you actually execute it. You might start with this idea and eventually figure out what works best, if this doesn’t.
Gyan apart, I would love to know the exact ONE pain point that you want to solve? Remeber I’m not asking how different you are from others.. etc investor-ish / accelerator-ish question, but what exactly is that pain point?
You might want to get started with movies and eventually add other kind of services on your platform, maybe shows / restaurants etc., which might be digital Bluebook kind of thing. (https://yourstory.com/2015/03/thebluebook-bangalore-hyderabad-deals-discounts/)
Hope these questions help you think deeper.

Hi Prateek,
The concept is not new as far as I know. Since when I used to stay in Calcutta we had a membership of a movie club called Spandan, which use to provide 4 or 6 FREE movie tickets every month. They used to book the entire movie hall. The concept was good, but slowly and slowly the concept died since many a times they would not offer good movies.
Now coming down to your concept. It is a good concept if executed well. But I suggest you consider looking at following :
I can help you executive the idea if you are looking for website/mobile site etc – you can visit our website https://www.72interactive.in for more details.
