Startup

Putting people back into conversion funnel, automatically.

Hi, I am Mohit. When we launched Gaurilla, we got a lot of new users but only a few converted. When I talked for quite a handful of those, I zeroed in on the following reasons:

  1. They wanted to just “check” out the app.
  2. They wanted some features, which we didn’t have in the beginning.
  3. Next day they forgot that they have signed up for the app a day before. (Not joking!)

We decided to conduct a small experiment, which would help us engaging more with the user. As the first step, we made a 7-part email series that is sent over the period of the duration of trial period of the new user. This email series makes the on-boarding easier.

And then, we ran another small experiment for 2 weeks for in-app notifications. These notifications are like the notifications of Facebook. They show up in real time (were done manually in the 2 week experiment) when user performs some action in the app. This allowed us to increase the average user activity by more than 55%.

And in the end, we saw a jump of 30% in the conversions. We were astonished how much the result jumped up when we simply increased the engagement with the user. A lesson learned.

Now, we are in process of automating this whole feature and if we get 20 more startups to agree to give it a try with us, we will spin it up in a standalone product.

I wanted to know if anyone wants to be on our early users’ list. Being on this list does NOT mean you have to pay us money right away. It simply means that you promise to be our initial customers when we build up this service. I am doing this exercise to validate the idea (and eventually increasing your conversion rate). 🙂

The details about the service is in this deck (10 slides):

And if you want to be on our Early Adopter list, you can fill out this small form over here: https://bit.ly/1jZhJzL.

The idea is about building automatic in-app notifications which will work along side automatic emails.

  2. No no. We aren’t anywhere like webengage or intercom. While they are broadcasted notification system, we are more of user-specific notifications.

If you have an app, you send unique notifications to each user (just like you get customized notifications on Facebook).

However, we will have a plug-and-play widget, but we will be focussed more to developers rather than marketers.

    Cheers!

  3. intercom , web engage has an api so that you can set rules for users .

is this that big / different a problem that it requires a new product ?

there are other competitors too apart from the ones i mention .
try going deep into competitors , use their premium plans , request for your feature – they should oblige .
try pretending to be a buyer first .

    tc cheers

  4. I agree they have rules based notifications, but Hoootify would have rules that are based on the events the user performs.

I guess, I will make a document stating how we will be different from them.

In brief, think of facebook notifications. Webengage and Intercom or others don’t provide notification like it.

    Cheers!

  5. dude they provide an api
