It’s been 2 years since me and my partner started a web services company in Indore. We are diligent and sincere towards our baby. Have made decent progress financially and increased our team from 2 to 9 employees now. The growth plans for the next 2 years are ready and we are steadily on track to achieve them.
However, looking at the various “Real life” dreamy stories of so many Entrepreneurs from rags to riches and the reverse, I sometimes wonder are we living the ‘Real life’ of an Entrepreneur ?
Leaving the cosy IT job and onsite opportunities, resigning from the Placement process during MBA, shifting to smaller / slower city like Indore as compared to Mumbai – aren’t they all part and parcel of the process.
During the process, we had our moments of innocent stupidity trying to mimic similar moments from some great start-up stories:
- Discussing our roles and responsibilities for hours together and ultimately doing everything that comes our way
- Flipping a coin to decide on the official font of the company and then going ahead with the font we like
- Stretching ourselves in office just for the sake of saying we have worked 14-16 hours a day to build this company
With the benefit of hindsight I can safely say Entrepreneurs should stop living the ‘Concept’ and actually live the life of a simple dedicated person who gets his job done (doesn’t matter if the Job Description says ‘Everything’). Instead of seeking stories to be told years later with the crowns of success, it’s better to do what matters. The stories will follow!
Some people define an Entrepreneur as:
- Crazy
- Workaholic
- Motivated
What if I say, I am none of the above. Does that make me any ‘less Entrepreneur’ than you? Certainly it doesn’t!
I have my days where I am subdued; wanting an early break, feel particularly less motivated. But it does not mean I don’t deliver what’s needed.
The way I describe myself
- Continuous learner
- Willing to accept mistakes and move quickly
- A person who likes his sleep, food and day-off
- A dedicated person but not able to work his arse off for months together
Some of these traits might not match with the great Entrepreneurs, but am sure I am not alone.
This post goes to all such people who doubt themselves over their ability of being an Entrepreneur. Stop believing in the definition made by someone and avoid conforming yourself to such qualities and rules.
Make your own rules and stick to them, no matter what!
