Running Musing: 7 Lessons from Arvind Kejriwal’s Magnificent Comeback!

These are lessons learnt from an entrepreneur’s viewpoint with no political leaning.

1. Quickly accept mistakes & learn from them: Kejriwal was quick to accept his mistake in resigning, thereby,  taking the wind out of the BJP & Congress’s line of attack.

2.  Learn to walk before you run: The AAP tried to expand pan India after the 2014 elections & failed miserably. Now, the focus is to succeed in Delhi and take it from there. Don’t spread yourself too thin. Focus.

3.  Trust Yourself: Despite the disastrous showing at the general elections + mass internal revolt, Kejriwal focussed on his purpose. Having blinders on, focus, self belief & drowning out the noise is what is important to achieve success. Even when his supporters like Shazia Ilmi & Kiran Bedi left his side, he stuck to his purpose.

4. Look for the path hidden from the world: It seemed impossible to create a credible Political Party with little funding & no ‘movie stars’ in a short time. Challenged by Congress & BJP leaders, Arvind Kejriwal achieved the impossible with strategies whose results only he could foresee.

5. Oportunities exist if you look hard enough: With the decimation of the Congress in the general elections, AAP has been quick to spot & grab the vacant spot of the secular alternative to the BJP in Delhi. Success in Delhi will be the base to launch themselves Pan India as ‘the’ secular alternative to the BJP.

6. Bide your Time: If you work diligently & have consistency in purpose, you will get your chance. It is not who wins the battle but who wins the war that matters. Focus on sustainable differentiators which can scale when the opportunity & right time is right. AAP stuck to giving an honest, secular & equal opportunity government which acts.

7. Technology as a leveler: AAP kept a close watch on the voter sentiments through social media & other means & continuously modified their campaign tactics & strategy. Thereby running a very cost effective campaign against well funded campaigns of the BJP.

As an entrepreneur, don’t let competition deter you, bigger pockets scare you, naysayers dissuade you. While people waste their time discussing, arguing & contemplating, get down and act. You shall yet have the last laugh..
