Found an interesting article on techcrunch on how Amazon has dropped the price of
Kindle by $25 by placing ads on homescreen and screensavers, each time the kindle connects to the internet.
A simple code which could be embedded/preloaded in the phone which will control the wallpaper or screensaver displayed. The manufacturer needs to tie with an advertiser (someone like AdMob) and an ad agency.
The users will be asked to connect to the internet at least once a day / week and the wallpaper/screensaver will be updated.
After ads are shown for ‘x’ hours the code deactivates itself automatically.
This can also be used to push apps onto mobile phones.
Advantage: The cost of buying the device reduced tremendously.
Apps developer would no longer need to rely on the operators mercy to push their products.
Seems to be win -win situation for mobile phone manf., apps developers and users.
Do let me know your views on this.
Thanks!
