Startup

Self discovery through your client !

On a dull day in office, i decided to take up free online Entrepreneurship course. The speaker was a respected author and professor, so i tried to catch every word i could.

There were a couple of exercises that I skipped for the want of completing the course quickly. Then came an exercise on Defining Value Proposition for the startup. Somehow I just could not skip this one (God had something in mind for me that day). I pondered and pondered on it, but didn’t even come close to writing one word.

In that very moment, lightening struck, i felt light as a feather and got the first “Eureka” moment of my small Entrepreneurial journey. WHO can define the Value Proposition for us.

An Inner voice said: if my CLIENT can’t, NO ONE can !!

Why not ask the devil himself (in my case ‘herself’). So I pinged one of our best clients who is very happy with our work, is always supportive but technically demanding. Had the below chat with her and was amazed to discover new things about us and very subtly found a road-map for our venture.

Insight 1: Value Proposition -> More than being a good technical team, our client considers us as a technical partner in the venture

Insight 2: Target Segment -> Our experience so far gives us a leverage to understand the needs of a startup. This can be our target segment

Insight 3: Self Improvement and Customer Development -> We had those qualities with us all the time, but failed to communicate it to other clients. We now know better, what to speak to the clients and how to align our offerings to their requirements for developing a long term relation.

Nirvana: It can be a CHANCE that a client chooses you out of the crowd, how to make best of the engagement is UPTO YOU ! AND rather than depending on such chances, fine tune your strategy to find opportunities before they knock anyone else’s door.

From a simple chat we found answers to a some of the most tricky questions we were asking ourselves. Am sure, everyone of us has some invisible qualities that we bring to the table never realizing them once. Why not discover them and turn them into a USP !
