Semi retirement

Hello,

I am a regular reader of this forum…It would be an understatement to say that I am highly impressed(and proud too) by what’s happening in Indian E-commerce space  and start ups overall.

This post is slightly off-beat ,so not all of you will identify with this(at least not till you reach a plateau) ,but I feel very strongly about it .So here it goes.

1)There has been a lot of talk about “what next after cricket?” for Sachin.Sachin & family has confessed that life would be tough as he has lived cricket till now.

I  believe that life is not long enough to make all the mistakes yourself , so learn from others. So in this case , what is learning for us professionals???

(BTW, this post is not about Sachin’s post retirement life as I am sure that he must have thought about his post -retirement life )

START developing a hobby now !!! One day you will be taking retirement and you don’t want to become a “liability” at home;Your office colleagues won’t be there post -retirement. Start making friendship with “yourself” .Retirements is NOT about feeling empty, its about doing what you WANT to do(financial freedom).

For those of you thinking that retirement is post 60, Start thinking about semi-retirement sooner than later .Thankfully we don’t have to retire like sports person at 35/40.

2)I have been to india few years ago as was missing India too much. However after spending 1.5 years in India and working for top IT companies i felt burnt out .I saw complex projects executed in 6 months by working 24* 7 and after that, the whole project teams moves out of org because of work pressure.

So need to stop treating  life like a “100 m sprint” , we need to treat it like Marathon .That way you will be in the industry for a long haul(even after you turn 60/70) ..

Your feelings/thoughts?

Ashish
