Starting my next entrepreneurial journey – Nairsrecipe.com

Some of you might remember me and my previous venture – The South Indian Store. I founded my last venture on Sept 2014 and sold the same recently (May 2015) to one of my close friend. Yeah, you heard it right… I sold my 7 month old company in profit.

What’s next?

I am planning to start a new content related website (Nairsrecipe.com) that will specifically host Food related articles, recipes, Diet suggestions and other related contents. I am still working on the USP for the website. I have done some homework and did some research too and found that the market is really big in this segment and there is a lot of competition too. But, I have planned to accept the challenge and proceed with the idea of creating a food related content website.

The Story

My wife is fond of experimenting new recipes and preparing different cuisines. She usually searched for different recipes on Google and used to try them out from different websites. I did some research on Google keywords and search traffic and found that the search for food recipe, healthy food, homemade food items, etc is really high and has a great scope as well. This led me to think about creating a one stop website where anyone can find and try tasty and delicious homemade recipes that are easy to cook and healthy too.

How would I earn?

As of now, my only plan of monetization is through Google Ads (Adsense). I know there are other options as well like – Flipkart and Amazon affiliate links, etc. I might consider them in future. Any other good monetization strategy you can suggest?

What about the traffic?

Bringing traffic to website is a challenging task and I am prepared for it. My strategy would be to leverage maximum out of SEO and I would also be using Facebook ads upto a certain extent. Google Adwords is another option. If you can suggest me any other good and working strategy that could bring traffic to my newly created website, that would be awesome.

What about the content?

I have several plans to feed my website with relevant content. e.g – Writing own homemade recipes, sharing recipes of famous chefs, recipes from YouTube, other sources? I am working on figuring out more ways of generating relevant content for my website. Suggestions are welcome.

On a closing note, I would like to thank you all (especially Asha and Darshan) for being a great mentor for my past venture and I would appreciate the same help for my new startup as well 🙂

  1. hey anoop,

    2) pls take lots of pix and share them over twitter for sure. twitter is super duper effective.

    3) do video blogs. new recipes involve experimenting. as you know, cooking shows are super popular, so start doing videos. get yourself a YT channel. will help.

    4) while i love the name – it might limit the perception to south indian cuisine. (i see you haven’t limited the recipes to south indian)

    5) try niche sections. moms are constantly trying to figure out healthy, easy to make, easy to carry, mini meals to put into the school tiffin box.

    6) try innovative breakfasts. easy-to-make breakfast will always be in demand.

man i could go on and on.

just come to goa and start a south indian shack 🙂 become our idlipreneurs! we miss good/authentic south indian food here…..

  2. get other homemakers to do guest blogs. when you become inclusive you become larger. and then you never know, you could start one of those food ordering platforms that promote home chefs….

it’s not a new idea. but it will always be in demand 🙂

  3. catch hold of an aunty/grandma from the nair clan. that would be awesome. include stories attached to the recipes. (e.g granny first saw grandpa when she was asked to pluck mangoes for making mango pickle). but they should be real stories :))))

and don’t forget to add human interest pix.

  4. Congrats for your previous as well as the new venture.

You could organize regular cookery contests under your banner at small and big levels to attract genuine crowd. The highlights could be featured on the website for contestants to see and share. You could have sponsorship for the same from FMCG brands for the moolah.

Include recipees which can be easily made by the college goers who have limited cooking resources and time. Include a section of recipees which can be easily made by the office goers who are single and dont have a lot of time to prepare food.

Also, there are online stores which deliver freshly cut vegetables for preparing dishes. You can tie up with them. The user can select the dish he wants to prepare and select the number of persons for which it is to be made from your site. Then  your page/ app could give the quantity of ingredients(vegetables) required by that dish, and subsequently freshly cut vegetables could be ordered on the click of a button from that page itself (sync the third persons online store app with your page).  This feature could actually be a great crowd puller if marketed well.

Blogging is an evergreen way to attract crowd.

Good luck for the new venture and keep us updated !

    Cheers,

    Rajat
