It has been almost 3 years since I started building Hammer and Mop, and writing has always been a habit. As a result, there have been numerous blog posts right from college years to the latest, documenting the changing ideas and thought processes of me as an individual on this journey.
A journey we all know about.
I’ve been given this fantastic opportunity of writing a regular series titled #StartupMuddyShoes on this popular platform. The title seems apt because a struggling entrepreneur (especially in the first 3 years) is not exactly rich (yet) and ends up with muddy shoes, sweaty arm pits and crumpled shirts while traveling across the city cracking business deals.
Doling out advice?
Hell no! Attempting to strike a conversation.
The articles will focus on the basic things we struggle with during the first three years of building a company ground up. Right from getting our first employee on board to learning the customer service etiquette the hard way. We read about starting up and growing a business, but we have to dirty our hands for many basic lessons. Not all things are obvious when you’re creating stuff out of nothing. I write as a fellow traveler, and would love you to write back and share your experiences too.
What might the topics be?
If we look back at our ‘formative’ years, we have the opportunity of looking at the same path from a variety of perspectives- like a kaleidoscope. We can write essays on how we handled our personal relationships, work relationships, investments (material and relationships, again), focus, money-making, networking and diligence.
I would be writing about the very start and the process of making an organization happen from nothing at all, from the mentioned perspectives. I’m confident that you’ll relate and enrich my joy of sharing this information by sharing your stories too.
How does it work?
- Comment on my #StartupMuddyShoes posts with your stories in the relevant context.
- Highlight your mistakes and learning curves.
- We would then make a compilation or post the stories independently again, so the lessons spread!
