Dear Rodinhoods
First a small intro about myself – I am from a family business background having intrest in Retail and clothing. I am the third generation entrepreneur. We have stores in Mumbai and Guwahati, Assam of readymade garments under the brand ‘WAREWELL’ in Mumbai and ‘GOENKA READYMADES’ in Guwahati. We also have inhouse manufacturing to give value to our customers in terms of better control on price and quality. We have one property in guwahati (Bhartia Enterprises in the pic below) which is as of now vacant. Was thinking of taking a F&B franchisee there. In Guwahati, people are rich, both monetarily and rich in taste and preference. Especially the Marwadi and Assamese community. We cannot sell anything and everything there.
Though there are lot of restaurants, bars, lounges that are coming up and they all do good business because of lack of options to go and spend time. But all of these fade with time untill something new captures the mind of the people.
Need some ideas for our store (500sq ft) in guwahati. Property in the main market of Guwahati, Fancy Bazar. With heavy footfalls and traffic movements.
Also, Naturals Ice-cream will sell like hot cakes because its already a popular brand there and people buy in bulk when they come to Mumbai. I spoke to the ground staff of the brand but they refused saying they are not looking towards east. If any of you coukd connect me to the management also would be a good idea to explore. Though there are quite a few Baskins parlour.
A fast food brand, i think, will do well.
Pls give your suggestions. Need to start up soon.
Cheers !!!!

hey aditya,
can you add an arrow on your image to point out which one is your space?
if ice cream is a big hit – then stick to ice cream. just decide a brand that is easy to work with. have you spoken to AMUL? they have a depot in guwahati – but i don’t know if your space will suffice.
also, why don’t you ask rodinhooder kiran (ice cream manufacturer based in mangalore) if they have the infrastructure to distribute ice cream to assam?

Hey Aditya,
another franchisee joint that I see becoming a rage here in Bangalore is the “five star chicken” brand .It is like a miniature KFC and I see them popping up in smalll spaces here in Bangalore and doing  good business, they have a crew of not more than 2 people manning it most of the time.
Best of luck
Anoop

Hey Aditya! Marwari & food, surely catches my eyes! Two options-
One, the easy route- Why not retail Rajasthani food products which are a rage with all of us?(me,being a marwari too)
This will be advantageous with not only the fixed targeted audience, but can also serve as a wholesale place to supply to other smaller cities and towns where the target population is high in the Far East(Golpara,Agartala,Dimapur, dhubri etc.), a trading business makes clear profits from day one if you’re sourcing from the right people in Rajasthan(Bikaner/Jodhpur) and I’ve heard from relatives, Assam gives a Kill when it comes to margins!!
Two, The tougher and your asked-for way- F&B:
I am not very confident when it comes to franchisee’s, they never give you a free hand to experiment, you need to give fixed percentages of your sales and you are tied down to its goodwill, you dont stand to create your own! Nevertheless, if you are willing to have one, Natural’s does not give franchisees at the moment, I myself tried to bring them to Delhi years back but they politely refused, if ice creams is what you are looking at, why don’t you try Giani’s(Delhi based), Top n Town(MP), Havemore(Gujarat) but you need to understand the supply chain constraints associated with transportation of ice creams too.
In my opinion, if really F&B is what you wamt to do, go for opening up your own brand of ready to go QSR products, could be Pizza’s, Pasta’s, Soda’s or you could also do some innovation to do something different in the Rajasthani/Marwari style cuisine- Would involve some heavy Hit & trials.
Good luck with all of it buddy! Do keep me posted about it @ prateekbohra29@gmail.com

Hi Aditya,
I would suggest to opt for a fast food joint considering the space and the heavy traffic. With Ice Cream i am not too sure how it works in terms of seasons, flavours and margins.
But with food, it is always the best bet (That is my viewpoint). There are a lot of options one can consider for this. A brand called Juice Lounge is doing really well in the startup franchise circle. So, maybe something like that can be considered.
Ammi Biryani is spreading its wings with the franchise model. (I don’t know taste preferences there in Guwahati. This is just a reference )
I would suggest to go for a FOOD JOINT hands down. There is a lot that you can explore with food as you can also stock Water, Aerated Drinks, Milkshakes to add more variety.
Hope this Helps

Hi Aditya,
I would suggest go for a medical store. Even if there is one nearby. If you are interested do feel free to connect with me i know someone from kolkata who might be able to help you with this. Â

Dear Aditya,
Hey in my opinion since your shop is in the heavy traffic market area and seeing the locality ,the target audience is not very upscale . So the best choice for you in which you make good profits and the brand , open a Food joint like Bikanerwala or nathus sweets , kind of outlet which sells very north indian staple food . Or if possible open up your own brand if you can do so .
You can ask their franchisee in your area if they give . Nathu sweets – 09811084089 Mr Grover , Bikanerwala -09650450303 Mr Tiwari .

Yes, I also think Ice-Cream sells well at any place.
The modern format is the Cold-Stone/Gelato ice-cream.
Look at :Â https://creamstoneconcepts.com/franchise-opportunities/
This chain is already a hit in Hyderabad and Bangalore.

Just an ice-cream shop doesn’t make sense. A fast-food joint does. Get a home delivery option and blast your neighbourhood with pamphlets.Â
You can never go wrong with food business.
Good luck!
Aditya
