Sunglasses

Sensei and Head Monk were out travelling and Mischief Monk was in his complete element. He spent the day ordering the monks around, demanding tasty dishes from the housekeeper and giving worldly advice to the Monastery staff. All through the day he had worn dark, extra large, bubble shaped sunglasses that had never come off.

At dinner time, Mischief Monk quickly occupied the head seat (reserved for Sensei), and still wearing his dark sunglasses, began to mimic Sensei.

In the typical way Sensei spoke, Mischief Monk gestured to Truthful Monk and said, “Truthful Monk, tell us what you see.”

Truthful Monk stood up, bowed to Mischief Monk and softly said, “I see that sometimes people close their eyes even when it is pitch dark. I see that these people don’t bother to find what could be theirs just because they don’t want to look. Most good things in life are secretly hidden away in discreet places. To find them, you have to keep your eyes open, all the time.”

Mischief Monk heard this, turned red in the face, removed his sunglasses and slowly slunk to his original seat.

All the monks started laughing heartily…!
