Why is that Guy in the pic shouting ? and why is he reading how to change the world ?
Here`s my story and please feel free to suggest me if you can.
My Story: Ours is a Bollywood daily wage classic hero style, lower middle class family. I discontinued my education after 12th due to major financial crisis as it was difficult for us to get food on the table. Started working as a courier boy (as it wasn’t a metro city for me to jump into a bpo), a few days later an attender, and then a chaiwala, to a kinder-garden teacher and what not for my survival. I looked back, 4 years have just flown away. Thought, I needed to do something as my family and me are a bit stable financially now. So, I grabbed an opportunity from a bpo which came my way. Landed into a metro (sometimes) called Hyderabad.
Time had passed like a winter wind.I had completed my graduation with work experience of BPO (H*bc,2yrs 11mon – PS: It took me a very long time to adjust). I wanted more and I had interest in the internet Industry.I switched from BPO to a company working in the internet Industry as an Analyst (for 1 year 10 months now ,Reading content for a big ass corporation ) gives me a lot of time in hands and great food, and travel.
So,Whats the question? Here it comes, I want to do more than just a 9-5 job, but how ? As you’ve already read my background, It was hard for me to complete a graduation in – Journalism (I only opted that because it wasn’t important to attend the college and I could work instead).
What would be the best thing to do in the next step I choose ? Here are some opinions that different people give me.
– Learn coding or some technical stuff, As you love applications and clearly know the impact of it, to change the world and then continue to develop and create a business (Which ain’t that easy as it sounds, but at least it is a path)
– Continue your job and try to climb up the corporate ladder you will eventually become a great manager ( looking at my stinking routine..I’m afraid if ill be able to 🙁
– Change your job and take up another challenge, As I’ve become too comfortable here (PS: Not many people out there are ready to hire Journalism grads with different experience 🙁
– You kidding me? Look at you ! Don’t do anything ! You are 28 already. Just get married and have kids and life shall be good. You’re not from IIM or an IITian/ISBian/BITsian. Get your act straight and live normally like all your friends are.
Sometimes I feel, looking at our family and absolutely zilch financial background (except those nickles and dimes I’ve saved for rainy days) I should not think about any changes like starting up , except 9-5 routine. Plus I do not have any entrepreneurial knowledge/background .But then, there is constant voice in my head. I’m damn aware that neither of these above options are easy, However ! I’d really love some perspective from trhs, who I believe are the smartest bunch. I’d like to thank trhs for being a great platform.
