One of the most famous horses of the world called Chestnut Thunder and his Jockey were participating in the local town Derby. The Jockey and his horse were unique. In the past 15 years, they had won all but 3 of the races they had participated in. They were the delight of the crowds and were unmatched in their performance.
The Jockey himself had an idiosyncrasy – he always wore dark goggles when he raced and never removed them even during the prize distribution ceremonies.
As was expected, Chestnut Thunder and the Jockey won the town Derby and received a standing ovation from the crowds.
Later, the Jockey came to the Monastery to meet Sensei and the monks. The meeting took place in the main hall. The Jockey was wearing his usual dark goggles and bowed to Sensei. And when Sensei bowed to him, the Jockey did the unbelievable – he removed his dark goggles.
The monks were shocked to note that the Jockey was blind! His eyes looked small and sealed.
Sensei smiled and requested the Jockey to say a few words.
The Jockey said, “All these years, my horse and I have won the races because we trust and guide each other. Before the race, I talk to my horse and explain the race strategy to him and during the race I just sit and let him ride. We lost 3 races only because we did not listen to each. Honestly, Chestnut Thunder is a born winner. I just guide him.”
Sensei clapped thrice and said, “Like the rider and horse, look within yourself. You will realize that your conscience is your silent rider, guiding you always. Do your deeds but always listen to your conscience. And you will always win.”
