Let’s call this a small tip session. I am not the person perfect you should listen to for suggestions, but this is to share with you what I have learnt and have been practicing for the past 3 years in my agency.
It’s what we call – The Meeting after THE MEETING.
As partners to the agency, most of the important meetings (particularly the pitch ones or the new project ones) are attended by both of us. Once the meeting is all over, the first question that we ask each other as soon as we are away from their hearing vicinity is – ‘So how did that go? What do you think?’
Now the funny part is we both know the answer (mostly) and we both know why we are asking it to each other. It’s to hear to the truth loudly which we already know inside. But, just asking to each other highlights the significant portions of the meetings. Like – You should have done this like that, That was the best from you, or Oh God, why did you said or did that?, etc.
It’s like scrutinizing the things amongst ourselves to clear the vague fog that everything went perfect.
So the learning session for us is not the meeting, but the meeting after that. This makes sure that the next time we are there; we have got rid of the negatives that were underlined and keep in mind the positives that got appreciated.
The points that you can take back after reading this small piece is:
– Appreciate and acknowledge.
– Criticize the very moment; don’t wait for another such blunder to happen.
– Have the guts to question each other and yourself on what you did collectively.
– And lastly, be positive about the meeting – after all, it was a learning experience at the end!
For start-ups, deliberate questioning to yourself or to each other (if have partners) works wonders!!
Have fun!
