The Rooster

The Monastery sounds its Confucius bell early in the morning to wake up its residents. It’s a beautiful, deep, magical bell that makes beautiful music.

For the past few weeks however, there is a local Rooster who seems to be competing with the Bell. He begins crowing early in the morning.

The monks requested Head Monk to request Sensei to try and stop the crowing. Sensei accepted the complaint.

This morning, Sensei went out early in the morning to search for the Rooster, and found him just before he started crowing. Sensei and the Rooster had a conversation and then parted ways.

Viola! The Confucius Bell was the first to sound this morning, and the monks were very happy.

After the morning meditation, Truthful Monk asked Sensei to reveal what happened between him and the Rooster.

Sensei said, “I spoke to the Rooster and confirmed my doubts. That, the Rooster was crowing as per his nature, without realising that he was disturbing people. Just like us! We humans also keep saying things without knowing how much they hurt or disturb others. When I told the Rooster the truth, he thanked me and went away. Similarly, if we get a chance to be told about our words and the effect they have, then we must also make suitable amends.”
