What exactly do you do? Simple and non complicated.
I am in the process of creating World’s largest Uttarakhandi matrimonial company.
Why do you do what you do? Is it to make money, to become famous, to retire, to kill boredom, WHAT?
I simply want to create one thing before I leave planet earth. It just makes me feel that my existence was worth something. It gives me my identity. My footprints in the sand of time.
Being in Job was great but I never felt that I was creating anything except some money. I never owned anything there and once I left could never go back there and tell the new arrivals that I once worked there (no one was interested and there were new owners).
Is there anything unique in what you do? And here ‘unique’ can mean anything – doing what’s been done for donkeys years and yet in a more cost efficient manner, or something new in a boring business or line or simply inventing something completely new?
Nopes. I don’t think that am inventing anything new. Just re-inventing the wheel. Creating some more value in the same product. Creating something for myself more, I believe.
When a new mithai shop opens up in the neighborhood, does it creates anything unique.Nopes. It just gives consumers more to choose from. Breaks monopoly of existing businesses and in return creates healthy competition and better deal for customers. Does everyone have to be Edison??
Yet the difference is that we have a more personal approach with relationship counselors at our centers to assist the not-so-net-friendly parents finding the right match for their kids. We don’t publish or allow kids to post their numbers. They have to post their parents numbers in contact details as it eliminates chances of becoming a frivolous dating site. We are data driven but very cautious in terms of data verification and almost 99% of our data is verified. We are setting up more offline centers to cater directly to the decision makers i.e. parents and at the same time creating the right platform for the end users (prospective brides and grooms) to search directly from our website and recommend to their parents who then follow the lead along with us. Our entire staff (except the software team) is from Uttarakhand thereby giving them an edge in understanding the nuances of local ethnic needs and cultural sensitivities.
What happens if this fails?
Nothing. The journey is always worth it. I will find something else to tinker with. Can’t help it. It’s in my DNA.
Besides, I have been answering this question since the day I even thought aloud the idea to my family and everybody simply ignored me. From the day I went to my first customer to post his single profile on my website to this day when I receive about 30-40 new clients everyday from almost everywhere ,I have been answering this question. I believe that I would still be answering this question when I would be receiving like 5000 clients a month. In last one year we have proved every naysayer wrong and yet they keep springing from everywhere.
What I have learnt is to be your own naysayer and keep inventing bigger goals. This helps you in creating the distinction between being cocksure and determined.
What’s gets you most irritated? And what makes you most happy? (mention anything – private, personal, confidential, if you committed a murder and are felling guilty about it or just what you wanna)
What gets me most irritated is “me”. The flaws within me and the so many things that I would like myself to be. It’s a constant journey of watching what those flaws are doing to me and the irritation that little is being done by me to overcome them.
What gets me most happy is actually so many things..my son , my wife’s smiling face and when I walk into MY office every morning……
What makes you tick? Why the hell are you doing this?
I just can’t help it. It’s in my DNA. Creating something you want and believing in it from the core of your heart makes you do so many crazy things.
I just wanna create World’s largest matrimonial company for Uttarakhandi. Every time I receive a payment from USA or UK or Dubai or someplace like Hyderabad, Bangalore I feel elated. Sometimes someone calls from Kota and says that his Bhabhi in Chandigarh told him about us. Or when someone couriers us a mithai –ka-dibba along with a thank you note. The very thought that right now people are talking about us , searching and finding their life partners on our website , recommending us to someone makes me veryyy happy. The thought that we are becoming part of someone’s life history forever is very exciting.
Famous last words – if you knew you are going to be hit by a truck tomorrow, what would you like to tell the world (other than crossing the road safely)?
Don’t let anyone or anything decides what you want to do or become in life. If it makes you happy, then it’s worth it.
