Hello,
I am a member for TRHS from quite some time now.I am founder and director of cloud computing company(CRM and BI space) in UK.
Till now I was getting contracts from UK based firms based on existing relationships. However I now need to expand my scope /opportunities .
As a starting point , I need to develop a website.(It wont be an E-commerce site , since customer’s wont be able to purchase from the website)
I have got few domain names and I am confused about which domain names to use .
a)co.uk -My company is registered in London-UK and i work out of my London office
b).com – Universally accepted standard
c).in- I would be working in Indian territory hence this domain
d)co.in –Similar to co.in?
e).net,.org etc?
- Any thoughts /ideas would be highly appreciated. What are the advantages /drawbacks of domain names etc?
- Any one who can develop the website for me?
Thank you,
Ashish Shah

Hi Ashish, There is no direct answer for this question, but there are view points. Here are mine
.Com and .net are good if you are marketing to more than 1 country.
.in or co.uk are good for the specific region.
.org being used by a lot of NGO’s has been perception of an NGO, it is not meant only for them.
other domains are there. go for them only of they make sense in some way.

Hi Ashish
As Anthony mentioned, if you want to target specific country which is UK in your case, go for .co.uk. If you want to target a larger audience across the globe, go for .com. And if you want to target Indian audience, you can also buy a .co.in or .in domain and redirect the same to your .com website to give a local feeling to your Indian customers. This practice will also help you score more in terms of SEO.
We can connect in case you need website development service.

I would only use dot.com
As the domain market fragments, a well known and easily identifiable domain extension always works.
Tell me, how many NON dot.com domains can you think of JUST NOW?

If you don’t want Miscreants copying and Blackmailing you over the other Free TLDs as suggested by yourself, For branding purposes you should Freeze onto one TLD to be used and Book the rest as well on your name and maybe Redirect them to the One that you plan to use likewise so it is Safe and No other person can use it to Phish, Scam etc in your Company’s name, You can Use the .in, co.in or .uk TLDs to make a Country specific site as a drop down feature on your mainsite which could be a Mirrored site of the same to cater to the County’s customers as well.
.com main site
.net Internal Vendors, Clients
.org for the Display Website for t he Company
.biz for Promotions and SEO requirements and affiliations or Association work
.uk for the UK team
.co.in or .in for the Indian Team
This would be more of a IP and Security procedure, with segregation of Functional roles as well, than a choice for a particular TLD for the same.
