So, what’s a great Job Description document (JD)? What goes into making a PERFECT JD?
Should it be a 1 pager or 2?
How does one get the perfect content for :
– Describing the Company.
Striking the balance between being too over bearing vs. too crisp (works when Google puts out a job and doesn’t need to tell the world who it is, but not when you are a start-up that no one has heard of)
– Capturing the opportunity.
Does one risk spelling out the Company’s real insight and vision and raison de etre to the world?
– CLEARLY defining roles and responsibilities.
How can the job be described? Which details go in and which get left out? What is the granularity required?
– Personality descriptions:
Is it important? Can it become intrusive or sound personal?
– Hygiene
What are hygiene points? Who does the person report to, where is the job located etc?
– Remuneration!
The touchiest topic. Do you state what your Company’s approach is – in the matter of remuneration in the JD itself? How do you set expectations right?
Is there anything left out?
I dont think there is a perfect answer – but since all of us create JD’s and even respond to them, I thought this was an ideal forum to have a discussion on the same. Also the request was to SHARE JD’s that people swear by/ have seen work wonderfully / would NEVER recommend to use etc.

What’s the opportunity?
Games2win has 26 applications on the iTunes store. With over 5 million app installs, we are one of the largest Indian players in this space. The company plans to launch a new app every week for the next two years.
In the next 2 months, games2win will be launching a social layer for mobile applications called Appucino. This is an opportunity to mould a platform on the fastest growing medium in the world – the mobile internet.
Role and Responsibility:
- Brainstorm with the management and spec out the product requirements.
- Documenting the ideas discussed to form detailed product notes and explaining these ideas to all team members.
- Proactively work with the Art, Tech and QC teams in rolling out the plans.
- Drive its growth based analytics.
- Ideate on how the platform can deliver value to consumers and developers.
- Benchmarking the platform with similar products in the social mobile domain.
- Owning and managing developer relationships. Pay attention to the trends you see in the community – what are they asking, what are they doing, where are they going and where are they coming from? Then plan to deliver based on the trend/requirement.
The Ideal candidate should:
- be a quick learner, capable of working with technical and creative concepts and products as well as adept at managing details.
- have excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- have a hands on attitude, working closely across diverse teams such as creative, art, technology and QC to address product development needs.
- pay attention to detail in documenting the ideas discussed so as to form detailed product notes and explaining these ideas to all team members.
- be a good Problem solver with the ability to efficiently and effectively prioritize and make trade-offs when needed for regular platform releases.
- possess a strong analytical skill set to evaluate the effects that the Product development will have on the platform and the metrics measured on a continuous basis.

Age & Experience:
A minimum 2-4 years work experience is preferred.
Worked on developing platforms –
Eg: Mobile VAS products such as Ringtones, Caller Ring Back Tunes, Contests, cricket, games
Internet platforms – Chat, AdSense, AdWords, WordPress
MBA Freshers with a passion and drive will also be considered.
Remuneration:
As a practice, we have typically matched candidates existing packages + ADDED on lucrative performance incentives and of course ESOPs.*
