havent checked out the blog but I was thinking about just the same thing this morning, in fact since a couple of days,
the science of happiness – that’s what zappos calls it….it is a critical ingredient in business success n employee productivity that is sustainable n credible…
hehe…thanks Abey, but i was thinking more about life in general and not specific to business…
for example, stuff like this: https://thehappy-blog.blogspot.com/2011/01/17-joy-of-giving.html
cheers.

Abhik,i think a certain level of contentment in wherever life is placing you at that particular moment is the most important element to make one happy deep inside….
This same happiness question came up recently somewhere and it sort of occurred to me that we are tackling this question from the wrong angle. Take babies. They don’t need a reason to be happy. They do need a reason to be unhappy. Diaper rash, hunger, etc.
Which brings me to another of my theories: Happiness in its original state is non-causative. It simply exists. Its the friction of want need and desire that separates us from it and we tend to gloat in glee over “stuff” since acquiring such things puts us back in touch with our happiness. Its not that we are happy because we bought the BMW or had the chocolate ice cream. We deny ourselves the permission to be happy without these things and only allow happiness to return when we have them.
Of course the other theory is that by being constantly happy (drunk on happiness?) we’ll never accomplish anything since we have no reference to strive towards…..which is, in a sense, seeking permission to be unhappy so we can do something and then give ourselves permission to be happy. :))
