I have an office in Ulhasnagar. The kalyan, Ulhasnagar and Thane courts are our domain. I am about to launch a b2b legal service (no court appearances, purely pre-litigation), however there is a hitch……..ULHASNAGAR.
Rodinhooders pray tell, wont my address on a letterhead or a marketing email have negative effect? Would it be wise for me to skip mentioning the address completely rather than risk business because of trust issues.
Should I mention my Ulhasnagar address or you have some better alternatives… Awaiting replies intently.
(p.s. The clients would hardly ever have the need to visit the office personally,)

Wishing you Good Luck on your Endeavor.
You Have a “Legal” office which is complete in every sense of documentation in “Ulhasnagar” as you mention and setting up the Business at that Location is not something which would be an Issue.
However looking at the question being directed to the Location, does that actually have anything to do with Offices not being able to be used Commercially or it has other Social ramifications and Blocks ? Negative effect of What ? How is Trust related to Location which is Legally and ethically yours to mention and claim.
Though “LEGAL” is not entirely my Domain but then there are Other Rodinhooders who excel in this and have it as a Specialization could answer better on the topic.
If the Clients would hardly ever have the need to visit the Office personally, you would probably use the address on your Office Stationary, Visiting Cards or your Website to show where you are Located which should be ideally be used for the related Documentation and Licenses etc if so required for the Business, and that would match.
If this is really something that is other wise important, you can have the option (or already have) to have the Official address any other place where it is Viable for your Flow of Economics as well otherwise.
There are a few Rodinhooders in the Realty Space if they can help you in locating alternate Business space or you can check or search for some I know have already posted earlier with Shared Spaces and other options in that area, if that should help clear your doubt or the actual problem of relocating to any other Area of choice for your Business.
Hope this helps in Narrowing down the available reasons and options or stick to what you have already in your Line of Business.
Trust is something that you would have to Invest a Lot, start with Your Address and self !! Your Customers depend on it! 🙂

Thankyou for responding. Actually there is a certain stigma attached with suburban office addresses. The notion is usually that such offices would provide mediocre services at best. Perception is a killer, but I guess I will go with my own address and try to build from there. Your post was very helpful, Thank you once again.

I am Operating from BHAYANDER in Far Suburbs myself, from the last so many years without any issues, though even I do not have the Clients come to my office place, however it still HAS the requisite Address on all Papers where required, which is also not “South Mumbai” in any case, since it is easy for me to manage things Where I find it Manageable and where I have the required Documentation and Space availability on my Name or as required within easy reach.
I am not sure why the Place of Business has to be only in SOME places, there has been a Significant Move for Business Address moving towards Suburbs to Cut Costs as also the Employees save Time travelling as they also reside more or less in the Suburbs or nearby, as also your clients IF they need to come down to meet you (as you mentioned, The kalyan, Ulhasnagar and Thane courts are our domain.) with regards to anything for the business then it is easier for them to navigate and save travel time as well, so makes sense right ?
If you are Doing a Honest and Trustworthy Business at ANY place it only Holds true how you Build it up from the BASE up, the Stigma gets no Importance, as it is Only in the minds who Created it in the first place. Having a Place in Up Market location has its Own Cost and other things related attached as well, so advice is provided looking at the Early Stage of a Startup, you can move it anywhere you can afford to in the future. Ultimately it is your decision for reasons best known to you, though on a Forum you are bound to get More Questions for this than Answers am Sure 🙂
Though apart from the location Selection if you would have posted something with regards to the Actual Business that you are getting into or Start you would have got responses and clients too, maybe this calls for another Post from your end soon!!

We work from a basement and to add a little drama to my address, I recently added ‘Yellow Door’ (which is the color of the main entrance door) to my address. This was also because many recognised our office due to that bright colored door. So it worked for us.
But yes my old office address was horrible and had mentioning of ‘Khasra No.322, Neb Sarai, etc’. But we kept it as it is as at the end of the day there is no one in the world who would want to work with you because of your address and not services.
So be cool, be honest, be frank. It will pay off at the end.

While I agree with dear Mr. Kejriwal and Anamika, you can also start working out of The Playce in Mulund that offers you a swankier address. I’d have suggested a co-working space in Bandra West but since you work in Kalyan-Thane belt, Mulund would be better.

I don’t have problem with ulhasnagar, infact as we speak office complexes are under construction here. Plus I love this region for its much needed green spaces. I don’t intend to shift to another place unless it becomes quite necessary. I was merely concerned about the negative perception suburbs in Thane have garnered.

My majority of client’s won’t be from Ulhasnagar region. It is a b2b service, so majority f the prospects would be from mumbai. I have nothing against my own address honestly, just a bit aggravated by some reactions I have experienced solely based on the place itself.
