‘Where there is a will, there is a way’ – How I am sustainably collecting funds for Nepal Earthquake victims

This started as a very normal Saturday morning, with me waking up in the morning, settling in my desk, opening my laptop lid, checking my email, firing up Facebook and that is when I came across the news – a massive 7.9 magnitude earthquake had just hit Nepal and some parts of India.

The posts and tweets kept coming in of the destruction and the gradually increasing death toll. From 499 to 950 in a couple of hours.

With every increasing new report, my mind was raging to think of how can I aid/help/support the affected people and victims using whatever limited resource/skills I poses. While a personal financial donation was the easiest answer to it, that wasn’t enough for me.

Using the massive power of the internet and the people collectively, what could we create that would help the victims on a larger scale, I knew there was a answer to it.

The answer we found was quite simple and effective as it can be scaled substantially. The answer we came up with is Giving Tab.

Giving Tab is a simple Google Chrome browser extensive which generates funds while the user surfs the internet. This doesn’t cost the user anything to use. The way it works is, it converts the new tab into a beautiful page with a non-obstructive ad and every time the user opens a new tab, the tab generates a little bit of income which will be then 100% donated to the Nepal Earthquake Relief Fund.

More than 160M users worldwide use Chrome daily and if only a fraction of the users use this extension, it would contribute a large number.

So, I would request you that if you like the idea and want to give it a try, please download and user the extension, at least for a few days – https://www.givingtab.org . Also, please share and help it reach out to as much people as possible. Thanks!

  1. hey deep,

    nice initiative and branding.

do add your twitter handle at the end pls.

  2. hi deep,

what’s the response been like so far??

  3. I am interested in knowing about the response too. Please let us know.

I think in general people want to do charity and not work towards it. This sounds like a solution to them. This should only be taken as praise. Anything that can bring about a change and help those in need is appreciated.
