Let me be unabashed of the fact that I am a great Yash Chopra fan. Why?
A Great CEO – Marketer
He had a pulse on the consumers, he was innovative, he did his research well, he kept the story line going, he managed multiple personalities with aplomb, he got leaders of the craft to give him the best output, he treated his team well ( have heard so ) and most importantly he was ahead of his time. He scripted, directed, produced and introduced new talent. He enjoyed both commercial and critical success. He gave back to the industry that gave him everything – Yash Raj Studios.
All CEO qualities and drivers of a successful organisation.
To bring it alive
Some of his biggest movies include Waqt – a multistarrer, Daag – a social drama, Deewar, Kabhi Kabhi, Trishul – all ICONIC films, Doosra Aadmi ( with the ever hummable Kya Mausam Hai….), Mashaal – starring Dilip Sahaab & Anil Kapoor with Waheedaji, Faasle / Vijay – where he tasted commercial failures, to bounce back with Chandani, Lamhe, Darr, Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jaaynege Dil to Paagal Hai, Veer Zaara & Jab Tak Hai Jaan – he created block buster movies.
Big B / SRK / Sridevi / Poonam Dillhon / Rajesh ( Kaka ) Khanna / Rakhee/ Sharmilaji / Rishi ( Chintu ) Kapoor / Anil Kapoor..
A whole generation of stars owe their success to him.
What’s the parallel?
Where does Apple come in here?
- His movies had great locations. Apple is sold world over.
- His movies were packaged well, Apple too stands out.
- None of his movies cringed on design, Apple doesn’t either.
- User experience was fantastic – story, dialogue, music, casting. Apple – the box, “bong” sound, the look and feel, the Apple store, all bear testimony.
- There was always one strong aspect – the music & the screenplay. Apple has design & navigation ( am sure many of you will find more delight )
- His movies had little or no sign of poverty, were expensive. Apple too has cheaper competition. Both sold well!
- They made us sing, laugh, cry and by the way were good movies. Apple makes products that lets us click pictures, talk, work and yes by the way they make computing and communicating while commuting very easy
- You watched his movies over and over, in parts / fully / listen to songs. Once an Apple fan – forever a fan
- His movies cut across generations. Apple is everyone’s favourite too. I suspect there are more quotes and books on Steve Jobs than the number of times the word “Hi!” has been said. We are not over with either, are we?
- Steve did a great Job. Chopra had Yash ( success ) in everything
If you are a fan of either you will relate why I say “Apple is the Yash Chopra of Mobiles.
