Why Copying should be made Legal? Let’s find out!

Why copying should be made legal?

Reasons?

When one product is successful, other folks in the same industry or new companies follow suit! (Then why do we have patents, etc??)

Classic example – Apple!

The good think about being innovative is that you get to set the standards for the industry! If Apple had copied what Nokia (market leader at that time of iPhone launch) was doing, the industry would have still been sticking to the same OLD smartphones.

The Benefits of copying:

Samsung has clearly copied many things from Apple be it the design or the looks of the phone, if you look at the earlier smartphones from Samsung and the one’s after iPhone’s, anyone would say that’s a clear copy from Apple!!

Then why on earth should we have patents and the legal stuff?

Clear benefit – the customers will be happy with the products or services as they will have more options, while the top 2 or 3 brands keep fighting for the market share.

Some Examples:

Justdial Vs Asklaila

Facebook Vs Google+

Google Vs Bing

Zomato Vs Burrp

For Students in School:

Schools should allow students to copy! Why?

My point is – Brands like Apple & Samsung getting into patent issues, Google and Facebook getting into problems etc.,

Brands don’t feel ashamed to copy from others. (Meaning – brands think, copying is the only way to survive).

So in schools, there shouldn’t be any restrictions to copy. If a child likes doing that, he should be allowed to do so. But the teacher who corrects the paper can make out the difference. (Likewise, the customers will know the difference of using a product and then decide)

So copying, in a way will teach you some best industry accepted tricks & trades. But you end up being mediocre if you copy!

To be a leader, one should always innovate by breaking the rules!!

But to stand out from the crowd one should innovate and inspire.

Feel free to share your views.

Cheers,

Karthik
